Image quality and file size

SonoFiles places the original JPEG image data into the PDF instead of intentionally lowering JPEG quality during conversion. The image is scaled to fit the page while keeping its aspect ratio.

  • Large camera photos usually create larger PDFs.
  • Changing paper size does not automatically make embedded images much smaller.
  • If a portal has a strict upload limit, create the PDF first, then use Compress PDF.

Margins, orientation and page order

Margins control white space around each image. Auto orientation lets portrait and landscape images use the page direction that fits them best. The order shown in the image list becomes the final PDF page order.

Privacy and browser processing

For JPG to PDF, conversion happens locally in your browser. Your selected images do not need to be uploaded to a SonoFiles conversion server.

Technical limits: up to 50 images and 30 MB per image. A 200 MB total batch is recommended for best reliability; 300 MB is the hard maximum. Above 200 MB, use a desktop browser because image decoding can require far more memory than the stored file sizes.

Common uses

  • Scanned paperwork: combine photographed pages into one ordered document.
  • Applications: turn supporting images into A4 or Letter PDF pages.
  • Receipts and records: keep related photos together in one file.
  • Assignments and notes: submit photographed pages as a single PDF.
  • Photo PDFs: create a simple multi-page document from selected images.

JPG vs JPEG

.jpg and .jpeg are two filename extensions for the same JPEG image format. This tool accepts both.

Troubleshooting

  • Image rejected: confirm the file is really JPG/JPEG, not another format renamed with a .jpg extension.
  • Browser feels slow: use fewer large images at once or close memory-heavy tabs.
  • PDF is too large: use Compress PDF after conversion.

A4, US Letter and Legal in Real Submission Workflows

A4 is the normal office standard across the United Kingdom, most of Europe and many other regions, while US Letter is common in the United States and Canada. US Legal is used in more specific administrative and legal workflows. If a portal, printer, university or client specifies a paper size, follow that requirement. If the PDF is only a digital photo collection, Match Image Size can avoid unnecessary white space and keep each page closer to the source image proportions.

Why Page Size Does Not Automatically Reduce Photo File Size

A camera image can contain millions of pixels even when it is displayed on a much smaller PDF page. Fitting that photo onto A4 or Letter changes how large it appears on the page, but it does not automatically remove the embedded JPEG detail. That is why a PDF created from many high-resolution photos can become large. Build the document correctly first, then use Compress PDF if the recipient has a strict byte limit. For forms and signatures, preserve enough detail to remain legible.

A Verification Routine Before You Upload or Print

Open the downloaded PDF instead of assuming a successful conversion is enough. Check the first page, last page and any point where the image sequence changes. Zoom into the smallest important text, signatures or reference numbers. If it will be printed, inspect print preview for clipping or unexpected scaling. If it will be uploaded, confirm both file-size and page-format requirements. Keep the original images until the recipient accepts the document.

Private Browser Processing for Personal Paperwork

JPG-to-PDF conversion is performed locally in the browser for this tool, so the selected images do not need to be uploaded to a SonoFiles conversion server. That is useful for receipts, assignments, applications and ordinary scans. Local processing is not a legal compliance certification; organisations handling regulated or confidential material still need to follow their own device, retention and access policies.

JPG to PDF frequently asked questions

Should I use A4 or US Letter?

Use the format requested by the recipient or portal. A4 is standard across the UK and most of Europe; US Letter is common in the United States and Canada.

Does JPG to PDF reduce image quality?

The converter does not intentionally lower JPEG quality while building the PDF.

Why is the finished PDF large?

High-resolution JPEGs remain substantial even when displayed smaller on a PDF page. Compress the finished PDF if needed.

Can I mix portrait and landscape images?

Yes. Auto orientation can choose a suitable page direction for each image.

Are my JPG files uploaded?

No. This conversion runs locally in the browser.

What is the difference between JPG and JPEG?

They are filename extensions for the same JPEG image format.

Next Steps After Building an Image-Based PDF

Compress the finished document, combine it with another PDF or split it into smaller sections only when the next requirement calls for that operation.
