Spreadsheet values are written as PDF text rather than a screenshot of the whole sheet.
Excel to PDF Online
Turn spreadsheet cell values into a paginated PDF without uploading the workbook to a conversion server. Choose one sheet or the whole workbook, then select A4 or US Letter and an appropriate orientation.

Use A4 for many UK/European workflows or US Letter where that is the required standard.
Export one worksheet or process all readable worksheets in order.
The tool prioritizes what cells display instead of claiming to reproduce Excel-specific print layout, charts or macros.
What “Excel to PDF” Means in This Browser Tool
Excel workbooks can contain far more than rows and columns: formulas, charts, slicers, macros, hidden sheets, print areas, drawing objects, conditional formatting and custom page-break rules. SonoFiles takes a deliberately narrower and dependable approach. It reads the workbook in the browser and publishes the displayed cell values as searchable PDF tables. That is useful for data handoffs, simple reports and records where the grid content matters more than reproducing the exact Excel print engine.
Supported Spreadsheet Inputs
The file picker accepts modern XLSX as well as XLS, XLSM, XLSB, ODS and CSV. Reading a macro-enabled workbook does not run its VBA code, and the PDF output does not contain macros. Formula cells are exported from their available displayed/cached values; the browser tool is not a full Excel recalculation engine. If a workbook depends on volatile formulas or external connections, open and save it in the originating spreadsheet application before conversion so the stored values are current.
Choose A4 or US Letter Intentionally
A4 is the default office paper size in the UK and most European countries. US Letter is common in the United States and some other markets. The tool supports both without treating one as universally correct. Orientation can be selected manually, or Auto can use landscape when the worksheet has many columns. Wide tables may still require horizontal continuation because shrinking dozens of columns onto one physical page would make the text unreadable.
Why a Data Table Can Be Better Than a Pixel-Perfect Worksheet Screenshot
PDF table text stays searchable and selectable. Rows can paginate cleanly, and the file remains useful when printed on ordinary paper. A screenshot-based approach can preserve colours and shapes more literally but often creates tiny text and very large images. For spreadsheets whose purpose is to communicate numbers and labels, a clean grid is usually the more practical PDF. For highly designed dashboards, charts or branded financial packs, use Excel’s own print/PDF feature instead.
Large and Wide Sheets Need Preparation
- Remove or hide helper columns that the recipient does not need.
- Consider exporting a dedicated report sheet instead of a raw data dump.
- Use landscape for medium-width tables.
- Expect extremely wide sheets to continue horizontally across multiple pages.
- Split unrelated tables into separate worksheets before conversion.
- Check the generated PDF at 100% zoom before sending it for print.
Numbers, Currency and Dates Are Taken from Displayed Values
The converter avoids imposing a single currency or locale. If the workbook displays $, £ or €, that visible text is what the PDF receives. The same principle applies to decimal commas, decimal points and date formatting. This is important for workbooks shared between US, UK and continental European teams because silently reformatting a date or decimal separator during export could change interpretation.
What Is Not Carried Into the PDF
| Workbook feature | Current behaviour |
|---|---|
| Cell values | Exported as table text. |
| Basic worksheet order | Preserved when exporting all sheets. |
| Formulas | The available displayed value is used; formulas themselves are not embedded in PDF. |
| Charts, images, shapes and slicers | Not rendered by this value-first exporter. |
| Macros | Never executed and not included in the PDF. |
| Excel-specific print areas and headers | Not treated as authoritative page layout. |
Privacy for Operational Spreadsheets
Workbook parsing and PDF creation happen in the browser. The selected spreadsheet is not intentionally sent to a SonoFiles conversion backend. Conversion code may be loaded from external library CDNs, but workbook bytes remain in the local page workflow. For payroll, customer exports or other regulated data, your organisation’s security rules still apply, and the downloaded PDF should be stored with the same care as the source workbook.
Excel to PDF FAQ
Will charts appear in the PDF?
No. This converter is built around worksheet cell values. Use the spreadsheet application’s native PDF export for chart-heavy dashboards.
Does it execute Excel macros?
No. VBA or other workbook macros are not run.
Why is my formula result old?
The workbook may contain a cached value from its last calculation. Recalculate and save the workbook in Excel or another compatible editor before converting.
Which paper size should I choose?
Use the requirement of the recipient or print workflow. A4 is common in the UK and Europe; US Letter is common in the United States.
Can I export only one worksheet?
Yes. Choose a specific sheet after the workbook is loaded, or leave All worksheets selected.
