Security & Privacy

Protect file privacy by removing metadata, managing PDF access, redacting sensitive content and using clear browser-based security workflows.

Choose privacy tools by the threat you are addressing

Metadata removal, password protection and redaction solve different security problems.

Removing metadata can reduce hidden descriptive information such as author fields or image details, but it does not remove visible content from a document. Password protection can restrict opening or editing in compatible software, but it is not a substitute for secure sharing practices. Redaction is for sensitive visible information and must remove the underlying content—not simply place a black rectangle over text that may still be selectable or recoverable.

Verify sensitive-document changes

After redaction, search for the removed words if possible, try selecting text around the redacted area and inspect the exported file in a second viewer. After metadata removal, check the properties that matter to you rather than assuming every possible metadata field is gone. If a PDF was protected or unlocked, confirm the resulting access behavior before distributing it.

Local processing helps, but workflow still matters

Browser-local processing can reduce the need to upload a file to a remote conversion server, but privacy also depends on the device, browser extensions, downloads folder and how the result is shared afterward. For highly sensitive or regulated material, follow your organization's required security process and retain the original only as long as policy permits. Before sharing the finished file, reopen the downloaded copy rather than relying only on the preview shown during editing.
